New Grant Program!

Have you ever thought about taking your Canadian Horse to Spruce Meadows, or doing a clinic with Francois Bergeron? Taking your horse to a world class venue where you can show the world what the Canadian Horse can do, and help preserve our beloved breed in the process? Maybe CHHAPS can help your dream come true!

The CHHAPS Board of Directors is pleased to announce that we will be awarding small grants (of up to $250 CAN per grant) to CHHAPS members who are showing their horses in clinics, competitions, or exhibitions in 2020. The purpose of the grants are to assist our members in getting their Canadian Horses out into the public eye in large venues, with the ultimate goal of educating the public about, and promoting the breed. Unlike our event sponsorships for our group “breed demos” at horse fairs, these grants are designed for individual members and their horses. As such, members living far from other members, or who can’t field a “team” for breed demos, will have an opportunity to show the public what their horses can do.

To be eligible for the grants you must be a current CHHAPS member and your horses must be registered, purebred Canadians. Selection criteria include event attendance, level you are competing at, and clinician (for example attending a clinic with an FEI certified instructor in a regional venue like the Mane Event would rank higher than a local clinician at a small local venue.)

Grants may cover expenses including show, clinic, and stabling fees; ferry costs; and gas or other travel expenses. Applications must be submitted by at least 60 days prior to the event (for example if the event is on Feb 1, 2020, you’d need to submit by November 1, 2019), and a post event report, photos, and receipts must be submitted within 30 days of the event for reimbursement. The amount and number of grants we award annually will depend upon budget reserves and applications received, but we hope that with a little boost, more of our members will be able to get out and promote our beloved breed to a wider audience!
